For instance - let's say that the Kansas City Royals are playing the Minnesota Twins.

The "total run" line for the game is set at 8.5 runs. You could bet that the total number of runs will be over or under this amount.

Now, with the "alternate total runs" lines, you can bet on different totals, such as:

5.5
9.5
10.5

The 10.5 runs line, for instance, might look like this:

Over 10.5 Runs, +210
Under 10.5 Runs, -280

So, if you think that the game will be a high scoring affair, you'd want to take the Over 10.5 Runs line, as you would more than triple your money if the game was a high scoring affair.

If you think that the game will be a low scoring affair, you'd want to take the "Under 5.5 Runs" line at +260.
