Definition of Drive Results Betting
What does the term "drive results" mean in the world of football betting? What is meant by a "drive result" bet?
Most sportsbooks will allow you to bet on the outcome of a drive - for instance, you might see a line that says something like "1st Drive Result" or "3rd Drive Result".
With these lines, you are betting on one of four outcomes usually - punt, offensive touchdown, field goal attempt or "other" (safety, turnover, etc)

Prior to the game starting (and without knowing who will receive the first kickoff), the "1st drive result" lines might look like this:
Punt, -110
Offensive Touchdown, +310
Field Goal Attempt, +440
Any Other, +500
So, as you can see, the "punt" line is the clear favourite, followed by offensive touchdown, etc.
-
Other drive result lines will be available via "in-play betting" as the game continues.
These lines will be impacted by a number of different factors, including:
1. Which team has the ball
2. Game script
3. Effectiveness of offense
4. Time remaining in game
For instance - a team that is comfortably control of the game in the fourth quarter will be much more likely to employ a conservative offense, which will greatly increase the chance that their drive will turn into a punt.
Or, if an ineffective offense is down big in the third quarter, they will be more likely to take chances, which will greatly increase the chance of a turnover.
These are all factors that must be considered when placing a drive results bet.
