What is the meaning of Goal-Line Technology in the game of football?

The Goal-Line Technology is basically a set of cameras and sensors attached to each goalpost for the purpose of precisely determining if the ball has fully crossed the line, helping the referee correctly call if it is a goal or not.

If the ball crosses the line the referee receives a signal from the sensors on the goalpost to his watch. The technology is provided by GoalControl.

The Goal Line Technology was first used in the 2013-14 season of the English Premier League.

The German Bundesliga, Italian Serie-A and French Ligue 1 adopted the technology in 2015/16, while the Spanish La Liga still deems it too expensive.

The Goal Line Technology was successfully used in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and in the 2016 UEFA Euro Cup in France.

At the moment, due to cost issues, the Goal Line Technology is used in top levels on the game only.
