Definition of Safety Car



In Formula 1 (F1) racing, a safety car refers to a specially equipped vehicle that is deployed onto the track during certain situations to ensure the safety of drivers and track officials.

In photo:  Mercedes Benz on duty.The primary purpose of the safety car is to slow down the race and create a safe environment on the track when there is a dangerous situation that requires immediate attention, such as an accident, debris on the circuit, or adverse weather conditions.

When the safety car is on the track, drivers are required to maintain a specific distance behind it and are not allowed to overtake other cars until they receive permission from race control.
