Julius Erving is one of a few players who is more recognizable by his nickname than his actual name. His seemingly impossible finger-roll behind the backboard from the 1980 NBA finals is one of the top moves in NBA history.



Known as "Dr. J", Erving was the best player in the NBA before stars such as Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan came into the league.

Julius Erving was famous for his unique playing style and outrageous slum dunking abilities. The 11 time NBA All-Star was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in year 1993 and the influential magazine Sports Illustrated has ranked him as one of the 40 most important athletes of all time.
