Sports Nicknames - Il Magnifico

Lorenzo Insigne is the newest European football star who selected to play overseas. The Italian striker signed a contract with the MLS team Toronto FC starting in July 2022. In the past five years, Insigne has been one of the best strikers in the Italian Serie A.



The player known by the nickname "Lorenzo Il Magnifico" has spent his whole career with the Italian side Napoli, with three short loan spells at Cavese, Foggia and Pescara.

Insigne was one of the key players of the Italian national team that won the EURO 2020. His scoring abilities and quickness have brought him comparisons to legendary Diego Maradona.

Insigne went through all youth categories of the Italian national team and that experience helped made him the best striker for the "Azzuri" later in his career. He made his debut in 2012 and the following year scored his first goal in a friendly match against Argentina.

In 2014, Insigne was a member of the Italian team at the FIFA World Cup. He had a bigger role in the team at the EURO 2016 and in the EURO 2020 he was the top Italian striker in the tournament.
