Sports Nicknames - The Finnish Flash

Teemu Selanne, known affectionately in the hockey community as "The Finnish Flash", is one of the best players from Finland to play in the NHL.



His amazing speed and special scoring ability gave him this nickname and a respected place in ice hockey history.

Looking at the records, Selanne's achievements are very impressive. Among the top players in the NHL, he is recognized as one of the highest scoring wingers to ever play.

Selanne also had a great international career. Wearing the Finnish jersey, he played in multiple World Championships, World Cup of Hockey tournaments, and, most importantly, the Olympics. He won several Olympic medals - bronze in 1998, 2010, and 2014, and a silver in 2006. This successful international career ensures that he is the top-scoring Finn in NHL history.

The Anaheim Ducks, where he played most of his NHL time, saw many of Selanne's memorable moments. One big moment was when he won the Stanley Cup in 2007. In recognition, the Ducks honored him by retiring his number 8 jersey. In 2017, Selanne was added to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
