Sports Nicknames - O Monstro

Thiago Emiliano da Silva is more commonly known as just Thiago Silva and is one of the best defenders of the past decade. The Brazilian might not be the biggest defender ever, but he has picked up the nickname "O Monstro" or "The Monster" due to his tendency to dominate opposition forwards.

Silva began his career in Brazil at Fluminense, where he would stay for 4 years. It was here where he would catch the attention of European clubs thanks to his terrific performances, winning the Copa do Brasil with the club. Specifically, AC Milan in Italy won the chase for him, where he learned from Paolo Maldini.

He won Serie A with Milan in 2011, as well as the Supercoppa Italiana. However, that would be all Silva won in Italy, as Milan saw a sharp decline in the 2010s. This led to Silva moving to France with Paris Saint-Germain. With PSG, Silva would captain the club to dominate the league for nearly a decade. They won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France in all but 1 of the years he was with the club. Continental success was absent though, with the closest attempt coming in 2019-20, where they lost in the Champions League Final to Bayern Munich.

Silva has also played a crucial role for the Brazilian national team, making 93 appearances for them at 9 different competitions, winning the 2013 Confederations Cup and 2019 Copa America.

At the time of writing O Monstro wears the blue of Chelsea FC and seeks to help them finish in the top 4 of England and even win the Champions League. Such a success would only round out what is already a full trophy cabinet for the Brazilian defender.
